-last day of 2nd grade-

I can’t believe it!  Yesterday was our last official day of school.  Caleb has now completed 2nd grade!   This also means that we finished our 3rd year of home schooling!  God has been very kind to us.  There have definitely been days when I felt overwhelmed, but God has given much grace!

Caleb LOVES to read.  Often the rest of school would get delayed because he would disappear with a book!  ha!  I guess there are much worse problems to have!  ha!

I could tell, though, that we both were ready to be done.  We started a bit early for the school year and didn’t take many breaks, so we are very excited about the summer!  (Speaking of summer, we leave on Sunday to go on vacation!  yay!)

Caleb, you did a great job this year!  You learned about all the States in the Union and got to learn about a lot of fun things in Bible, American History, Science, Spelling, Language Arts, even in Math!  It has been a good year and I am grateful to be your teacher!  I love you, honey!

Here are a few pics from the last day of school!

Next year, Alec will be in Kindergarten! :-)

We studied the Names of Jesus.  This poster has all of his memory verses for the year!

As his last History assignment, he had to write a letter to the President.  Here it is:letter-to-president-1

A “funny” from Caleb

Normally Alec is the one that says all the funny stuff, but Caleb has his moments, too!  Yesterday we were doing school and he was reading from his Bible (it is a translation for children, so it is easier for him to read).  Anyway, we were reading in Matthew about the angel appearing to Joseph in a dream.  Now, Caleb is doing extremely well at reading, but at times he will get going and if he sees a big word that he doesn’t know, he doesn’t stop to sound it out, he just skims by it and says something somewhat close.  :-)   So this is how the scripture read (according to Caleb):

“The virgin is going to have a baby.  She will give birth to a son.  And he will be called “ENEMA” (Immanuel).”

How fun reading is with a new reader!  Ha!

*first day of school*

It’s that time of year again…time to sharpen the pencils, pull out the new school supplies and try to regain some kind of schedule after the busyness of the summer!

We have officially begun our 3rd year of home school!  Wow…so hard to believe.  Caleb is now in 2nd grade!  I will also be doing some Pre-K stuff with Alec and including him in some of Caleb’s lessons.  We are looking forward to a good school year.  Hopefully it won’t be quite as challenging as last year (I was newly pregnant and we were all sick off and on through the school year.  Yuck!)  The new challenge before us is doing school with an infant!  But today she did great!

Here are some photos of our day…

***LAST day of SCHOOL***

Well…I can’t believe it…we are done with school – Caleb has finished 1st Grade! Woo-Hoo!

This has been a strange school year for sure.  Just a couple of days before we started school, I found out that I was pregnant with Ella!  Then for the next 12 weeks, or so, at least 1 person in the family was sick!  It was a challenging way to start the school year (on top of the first trimester “yuckiness”).  Our math books came in late, too, so it was a slow start to the school year.

But the Lord was faithful to help us push through the many obstacles.  Even with sickness visiting us again for a few weeks and the arrival of a little sister, the Lord helped us through!

So we are all excited to have a bit of a summer break!  Yay!

Caleb excelled in reading this year.  He went from not enjoying it at all, to LOVING it!  He couldn’t wait to read in his Bible Reader.  (I loved that about this curriculum – his reader was only Bible stories.  Starting in Genesis, he read about all the major stories in the Bible!  What a great way to learn to read!  Not only was his reading getting better, but he was learning about God’s Word at the same time!)  Caleb now reads things everywhere (even my email sometimes!)  What a reward it is to see him developing this new love!

Well, that is about it!  Enjoy these photos!  Congratulations, Caleb!  :-)
