why hello there
ok, so here’s the low down
yesterday we made a rather large list of things to do to prepare for a vacation Bible school that will be taking place next week. The school starts on Tues and will end on the following Sun. Also, this Sat is a ladies event and worship practice and decorating for the ladies event (Ill get to that in a sec =) So we went downtown to find crepe paper and gifts and stuff. The town was so crowded, there are people everywhere. So, walking on the sidewalks is a little like being in traffic and the roads are filled with cars so you really have to watch where you´re going. anyway we went all around and finally found what we were looking for.
Some of the youth from their church had invited us to go to the movies with them. They had asked us the night before at the prayer meeting, but we had to talk with the pastor first to see what we were doing. Keep in mind, they told us we would probably go to the movie around 9 pm. So Ruth, the pastor´s wife, and I are shopping and she asks me what time they were coming to pick me up. I told her that I didnt really know. She nextelled (I think i just created a new word) Elias (the pastor) to ask him what time they were getting me. (Jenny was at the church giving piano lessons). He told her that they were already at the church waiting for me. Needless to say, the 9 pm time was changed. So we hurridly…um quickly rushed to the church which wasnt too far.
We went to the movie, and just to buy tickets was a line like Disney world. I think its because on wed, they have 2 for 1 tickets. We went to see WallE, which I have to say was really cute. It was a little hard to understand because of the robot voices speaking Spanish, but there really isnt that much communication, so it doesnt really matter. The theater was huge and it was packed. It was so fun!
Today, we practiced songs that we will be singing for the kids at the vacation Bible school. Then another family met us at the house and we went to this super awesome restaurant in Jalisco (I think the actual was called San Miguel de los altos) oh my gosh, like the coolest place ever. We ordered Italian food, which was incríble. While we were eating it rained pretty hard and flooded the street for a while. Which is typical here because there really arent any good drainage areas. They refer to the street as a river when it floods. It only stays flooded for a little while. Anyway, we walked a little ways to a church (cathedral…there are many here) and stepped in for a moment to listen to mass.
In case I havent already mentioned, the family has a dog (chichauahah…or however its spelled) and two ducks. The dog (Dukey) lives on the roof and the ducks right now are in the front lawn under a beach umbrella. I´m afraid of birds and the younger daughter has enjoying taunting me and really freaking me out with the ducks…dont worry its on tape.
The church and the family are so amazingly hospitable. I came here to serve them, and it feels like it is going the opposite way. People have invited us to their homes, already had us over for a meal, taken us bowling, invited us to the movies, given us money for coming (that was a little different) and the list is endless.
The family is so incredibly patient and kind with us. There really arent enough words to describe them. They work so hard and put so much energy into the church. Through their conversations and their daily lives it is so evident how much they love the Savior.
If you could be praying for a couple things: I´m teaching Sunday school this sunday (by myself I believe) about Jeremiah, for Jenny as she continues to teach the keyboard that she would know what to use so that her students will learm easily and that her students would pick it up, for the vacation Bible school that more children would come than have signed up and that we would reach them with the Gospel. Also for the family, I´m sure it is exhausting to have other people in your house, even though we have cooked and do the dishes and what not, but that we wouldnt be a burden and that they would be refreshed with God´s presence. And last, pray for us to have faith for what God has here.
I love and miss everyone. Oh, and someone please tell Cindy, that I cant even remember how many times I´ve had whole milk here and it made me think of her.
Buenas noches,
jenn
